Area Colon and Rectal Surgeons, AMC was established when Dr. Samuel C. Oommen joined Dr. Yorke G. Jacobson in 1987. After twenty six illustrious years in private practice, Dr. Jacobson retired in 1989. Since taking over the practice, Dr. Oommen has served in the capacity of Chairman of Department of Surgery, President of the Medical Staff, and as a Physician Director of the John Muir/Mt. Diablo Health System Board of Directors. Dr. Oommen is a Diplomat of the American Boards of Surgery and Colon and Rectal Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He is a recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal for his services rendered to the United States Air Force.

Dr. Ran S. Kim has joined Dr. Oommen in August 2000. Dr. Kim comes from Connecticut where he attended University of Connecticut as an undergraduate in pharmacy. He graduated from the Medical College of Pennsylvania. Dr Kim completed his general surgery residency at Johns Hopkins, Stanford University, and Nassau County Medical Center. He was a Colon & Rectal Surgery Fellow at the Lehigh Valley Medical Center/Penn State University in Pennsylvania.
Today, Bay Area Colon and Rectal Surgeons is made up of two surgeons. specializing in the diagnosis, medical and surgical treatment of a variety of diseases effecting the lower gastro intestinal tract. Most of our surgical procedures are performed at the Mt. Diablo Medical Center and John Muir Medical Center. Certain suitable procedures can be performed at outpatient surgery centers located in Concord and Walnut Creek.
