Brian McGuinness, MD, FACS

Dr. Brian J. McGuinness earned his medical degree at Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana. He completed his internship and residency in General Surgery at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio and went on with his fellowship in Colon & Rectal Surgery at the University of Texas, Houston Texas.

Dr. McGuinness is double board certified by The American Boards of Surgery and Colon & Rectal Surgery. Dr. McGuinness is the current Chair of Surgery at the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek and a past Chair of Surgery at the John Muir Concord Campus Medical Center. He serves as the Surgical Physician Advisor to John Muir’s peer review Professional Practice Evaluation Committee. He was a recipient of various grants and awards in the fields of research and teaching during his training. Dr. McGuinness is a Fellow of The American College of Surgeons and member of The American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons, Alameda & Contra Costa Medical Association; Northern California Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons and the Northwestern Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons. He has also served as a preceptor for instructing surgeons nationally in laparoscopic and minimally invasive techniques in colon and rectal surgery. His interest is infectious, inflammatory, and neoplastic disorders of the intestines, colon, rectum, and anus.
Dr. Brian J. McGuinness joined Bay Area Colon & Rectal Surgeons in August, 2003. He was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts.
